I'm in the middle of one of my quarterly hiatuses from booze and this round has been particularly eye opening.
Everything is so booze infused. Whether it's yoga with beer, shopping with champagne or a bar at the movie theatre, it seems every activity is now connected to drinking.
It's very convenient for those who want to indulge, but it also makes room for a lot of questions for those who don't.
"You're not drinking tonight!? I don't know how you do it."
It's much easier to attribute sobriety to a diet that doesn't allow alcohol, than to say you're not drinking simply because you don't want to.
I didn't realize abstaining from alcohol was such a thing. I guess I'm a rebellious unicorn.
Over the course of a few short weeks, it's become apparent that booze is the answer for a lot of things.
Have a bad day?
"You deserve a glass of wine. Scratch that, here's the entire bottle"
"You need a pick me up"
Broke up with your boyfriend?
"We're going out for cocktails"
Went to the grocery store today!?
"Treat yourself girl"
I'm not saying this is good or bad, just pointing out a reality of American culture.
This could be a result of being a young person, but maybe not. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
